IPOB Press Release
December 07 2023 | IPOB
The global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by the great and indefatigable liberator Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu express our readiness to receive our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on the 15th of December 2023. IPOB wishes to reiterate that our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu did not commit any crime both locally or internationally, and we expect the Supreme Court of Nigeria Justices to toe the line of justice and unconditionally release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The Supreme Court Judges are legal luminaries who understand the Constitution in relationship to both international laws, treaties and local laws of Nigeria. The Supreme Court Justices should emulate the Appeal Court Justices, who refused to bow to the Executive branch of government’s intimidation but discharged Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and barred the Nigeria government from further arrest and prosecution of our leader. The Supreme Court Justices should use their privileged office to stop the executive’s recklessness and abuse of the human rights of Mazi Nnamdi KANU by releasing him unconditionally.
The Nigeria government can not brazenly violate their constitution and international laws on extradition with the Nigeria judiciary backing. The Supreme Court Justices know very well that extraordinary rendition is an international crime. They understand that Nigeria is a member of the United Nations and a signatory to treaties on extradition. During the Appeal Court judgment in Abuja, the Justices relied on extradition infractions and courageously condemned the Federal government of Nigeria’s reckless actions of kidnapping, extraordinary rendition and continuous detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by their unanimous decision to discharge and acquit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on October 13, 2022. We expect the Justices of the Apex Court to toe the same line and, this time, measure out serious punitive actions against the Federal Government of Nigeria for abuse of court orders.
All eyes are on the Supreme Court Justices of Nigeria. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement globally. The IPOB self-determination movement has been peaceful and civil in our demand for Biafra Independence via a UN supervised referendum. The movement has not committed any offense known to law locally or internationally.
Irrespective of the federal government’s repression and brutality against IPOB members, we have remained peaceful and have not picked up arms against Nigeria. Anyone or a group, including infiterator’s, and criminals who claims violence against Nigeria security forces, has no link to IPOB or Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu have several times disassociated ourselves from such armed groups.
The Nigeria Supreme Court must not rely on the state sponsored violence and blackmail from the Nigeria executive government against IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in their judgment but must protect the rule of law and respect for human rights. The release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from illegal detention is very important for the peace in Nigeria, particularly in the South eastern Region.
We call on all Biafrans who believe in our leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU to keep calm and ensure that there is peace in all parts of Biafra land. We are aware that our enemies will create insecurity and violence as the Supreme Court judgment approaches.
Every IPOB member and true Biafran should resist those enemies of peace. We encourage every Biafran to remain calm and prayerful as we wait for our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to rejoin us on December 15, 2023, after the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s judgement.
